In 2000, CrossGen Comics launched. Founded by millionaire Mark Alessi, CrossGen sought to expand the comics industry by forgoing super-hero titles and focusing on the Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Victorian Mystery, and Sword and Sorcery genres. Each of CrossGen’s titles stood on their own but was tied to a greater mythology thanks to a Sigil, which was the source of many characters powers.

The “sigil bearers” were supposed to join forces against a cosmic threat called the Negation in the mini-series, NEGATION WAR that would cap off four years of stories. Unfortunately, CrossGen went out of business after the second issue shipped? So what would’ve happened? Only NEGATION WAR writer Tony Bedard knew, until now…

I reached out to Tony to find out his plans for NEGATION WAR. Who’d live? Who’d die? How would the series end? Click to find out.  (more…)

This Friday Netflix will release Voltron: Legendary Defender, a reimagining of the classic TV series I grew up with.

Voltron has a special place in my heart. It’s a mix of my favorite genres: Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and robots. Plus, (in addition to Robotech) it kickstarted my love of Anime. Personally, Voltron means much more.  I was an “Assistant Editor” on the Media Blasters DVD. I’ll never forget when I went to New Jersey to look at footage for extras and discovered the long lost original pilot. I wrote an article for Protoculture Addicts about my experience.

To prepare for the new Netflix series, I’m rewatching the classic show and thought I’d share my favorite episodes with you. Click below and comment if you agree or disagree.  (And if you want to watch a few of these episodes check out the Voltron You Tube Page.)

Meglia

Meglia

Tyrannis’ sycophant and spy. A hunched over, skinny, Decimator who speaks with hiss and is always scheming. Meglia walks with a limp due to an injury in battle but that has only made him more dangerous because it gives him time to study and come up with ways to augment himself.

Meglia enjoys performing grotesque experiments on anything that moves on his own. He hopes to get the Princesses into his lab so he can learn the source of their power.

Will the Princesses get trapped in the horror that is Meglia’s lab? Back us on Kickstarter to find out!

Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie is one of the greatest movies ever made. Spider-Man, Batman Begins, Iron Man, and every other superhero movie have followed the blueprint it laid out. It’s heart and verisimilitude allowed the movie to stand the test of time. However, times change and you can’t keep the Man of Steel off the big screen forever. Bryan Singer attempted to resurrect the last son of Krypton in 2006’s Superman Returns. A noble effort, Superman Returns was undone by its slavish devotion to Richard Donner’s classic and a lack of action. Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) seeks to rectify this with Man of Steel. So, does it soar like Superman: The Movie or crash like Superman IV: The Quest for Peace? Click below to find out.
