New York Comic Con is this weekend and while I don’t have a table, “Wicked Game” will have a presence.

I will be wandering around Artists Alley and the show floor with FREE five page previews of the book. If you’d like one all you have to do is say hi. I’ll even sign it for you.

Also, stop by “Wicked Game” letterer Mindy “Indy” Steffen’s table at Artist’s Alley table V15 to check out her work and chat about Robotech.

Also, don’t forget to check out Collector’s Kingdom at booth 2679 for books by Pronto Comics, the publishers of my previous release, Blackout.

Finally, follow me @ToddCMatthy for more on my con adventures.

The subject of women in comics is a hot one. One of the sub-subjects is female superheroes and movies, specifically why there isn’t a Wonder Woman movie. The big questions are, “Why did we get a Jonah Hex movie before Wonder Woman?” ” “Why do executives think a super hero movie with a female lead is an automatic bomb?” “Why do executives think Wonder Woman is difficult?” I don’t know the answers to all of the questions. I do know we’ve gotten some answers that are B.S.

Female super heroes can succeed at the box office. It’s not a question of whether or not the lead is a female, it’s a question of whether the movie is good or bad. So, what’s the formula for a good Wonder Woman movie? Read below. (more…)

Hello readers, I’d like to announce a comic book I’m planning to publish.

Set in the near future, Wicked Game is the story of David and Kristina and their quest to rescue Kristina’s sister from human traffickers.

A cross between Taken and Blade Runner, Wicked Game is a Science-Fiction/Film Noir ballad sung to the tune of Chris Issak’s classic song that takes the reader deep into a world of manipulation, vice, and violence. It’s the perfect comic book to hide from your parents.

Joining me on the art front is Roderic Rodriguez. Roderic’s work has appeared in Zenoscope’s Grimm Fairy Tales along with several independent titles. He’s called Wicked Game is the “best work I’ve done in comics” and if the sample above is any indication, the best is yet to come.

For now, here’s a glimpse at the cover but be sure to keep checking this page for more news, images, and information on how to order the book. It’s going to be a fun ride.

Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie is one of the greatest movies ever made. Spider-Man, Batman Begins, Iron Man, and every other superhero movie have followed the blueprint it laid out. It’s heart and verisimilitude allowed the movie to stand the test of time. However, times change and you can’t keep the Man of Steel off the big screen forever. Bryan Singer attempted to resurrect the last son of Krypton in 2006’s Superman Returns. A noble effort, Superman Returns was undone by its slavish devotion to Richard Donner’s classic and a lack of action. Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) seeks to rectify this with Man of Steel. So, does it soar like Superman: The Movie or crash like Superman IV: The Quest for Peace? Click below to find out.

The Skull King

Last year, my short story, The Skull King, was published by Exiles Magazine. Now, it is available for you to own as an e-book.

Wilbert Stanton, editor of Exiles Magazine, said The Skull King was  “A refreshing and fun read. It reminded me that there are still true fantasy writers who refuse to conform to these new age fantasy archetypes that are diluting the genre.”

To order a copy for your Kindle click here. An excerpt is available after the jump. Thank you very much for your support. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. (more…)
