Dan Jurgens didn’t really kill Superman, but he did write Superman #75, the penultimate issue of the infamous “Death of Superman” storyline, where the Man of Steel fell defending Metropolis from the unstoppable monster known as Doomsday. The issue would go on to be one of the highest selling comic books of all time, spawning multiple printings, a media sensation, and creating a boom period in comics industry. Review: Batman-The Dark Knight Returns Part One | Y&P.

Chuck Dixon is one of the most distinguished creators in the comic book industry. During his tenure on Batman he not only created Bane but was an instrumental part in the creation of “Knightfall” and “No Man’s Land” both which served as inspirations for “The Dark Knight Rises.” But Chuck is more than just Batman. He wrote Punisher for Marvel, adapted J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” into a comic book, and is currently writing GI Joe for IDW. I recently had a chance to talk with Mr. Dixon about how he created Bane, the process of turning a novel into a comic book, why there won’t be any “Lord of the Rings” comics, what CrossGen was really like, and his thoughts on Bane/Bain Capital controversy. As a life long comic book fan I’ve had to constantly deal with people who look down upon the medium saying it’s only “for kids” or “nerds” and other juvenile statements. But when I read Tim Marchman’s article from the May 25th edition of The Wall Street Journal, and his condescending and scathing remarks about the medium I love, I could no longer stay silent.
